EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION'S BEAUTIFULLY RESTORED B-17, THE
"ALUMINUM OVERCAST."

The waist gunners operated through wide-open holes in the sides of the fuselage typically clothed in electrically heated suits. Today these ports are covered with plexiglas and offer an incredible view - in this case of the Biltmore Country Club and the French Broad River in the background. |

Amidships is the radioman's position occupied here by Jack Phillabaum "assisted" by Eric Carlson on the left. These classic radios operated at far lower frequencies than today's equipment and required a trailing wire antenna that had to be reeled in prior to landing. |
